Art description

Dark storm clouds pull together above the sea. Five ships are attacked off the coast by this heavy storm. From the second ship from the left only the broodmast is still standing, in the waves driftwood ... In short, ideal weather to get out and get some "vitamin Sea"! Check out this tough surfer babe in the classic work of Ludolf Bakhuysen.

Artist Ludolf Bakhuysen has struck the threat of the storm. The last sunlight that falls on the waves between the dark gray clouds makes the natural violence tangible. It is probably not a historical event. Performances such as these refer to the unpredictability of the elements and the insignificance of man, and were very popular in the 17th century. Apparently, in bad weather Bakhuysen looked up the water to study the weather conditions on air and water.
